CBD 101

Updated: Jun 17, 2021

“So what’s all the fuss about CBD?” It’s a question that I get asked every day. And if you’re anything like me, I’m more concerned about what I put into my pet’s body than my own. There’s a lot of doubt, misinformation, and just plain confusion out there. Let’s get some facts straight...

So...what exactly is CBD?

CBD stands for cannabidiol, a compound found in the hemp plant. Cannabidiol, or CBD, acts on the body's endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is the central regulatory system, known to affect lots of bodily processes (like digestion, mood, and sleep). Usually, a pet's body naturally produces its own cannabinoids that bind to cannabinoid receptors in the nervous system. But sometimes, with outside stressors like being sick or injured, this system can get a bit depleted. That's where CBD comes in. It binds to these receptors, ensuring the body maintains homeostasis (a fancy way of saying a state of well-being).

Which benefits should I expect?

The ECS regulates bodily processes such as digestion, anxiety, mood, pain, inflammation, active recovery, and sleep. Your pet might expect relief from any affliction upsetting these natural mechanisms. CBD also contains both Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, alongside antioxidants, which packs a serious punch when it comes to anti-inflammatory properties.

Why use Gizzls CBD Treats and Oil for healthy pets?

We love our pets… and to help them feel their healthiest best is the very least we can do, as we get so much joy and love back from them. So if they have any pain, inflammation, anxiety, fear, or even a small little something that's just "not quite right" we want to help them the best way we know how.

Are there any adverse side effects of using the biscuits?

CBD is also non-toxic, not psychoactive, and non-habit forming – we want keeping your pet happy to be comfortable and worry-free for you, too.

What is the entourage effect?

The Entourage Effect actually just means the “whole-plant” effect.

CBD doesn’t do so well in a pet’s (or human’s) system without other compounds native to cannabis. This symbiotic relationship between CBD and other cannabinoids like THC, CBC, CBG and others is called the “Entourage Effect”. It’s the relationship between different compounds in cannabis working together to channel the CB1 and CB2 neuroreceptors natural to the body to provide maximum relief for debilitating symptoms. To take it a step further, the entourage effect doesn’t just apply to cannabinoids. Terpenes, the aromatic compounds natural to most plants, are especially concentrated in cannabis. These aromatic compounds have been found to provide significant relief for many chronic conditions just by themselves.

The entourage effect results when the many components within the cannabis plant interact with the body to produce a stronger influence than any one of those components alone – it’s a synergistic effect.

And it’s what differentiates isolates and hemp oil commonly found in health shops and pharmacies countrywide to full-spectrum CBD oil.

That’s why all of our products include full-spectrum CBD oil, to ensure we are doing everything possible for the happiest, calmest, healthiest pet out there. We want you to make the most of all your adventures with your best friend.

Our goal is to help as many pets as possible be as happy and healthy as possible!
